CEREMONIES
There
will be some ceremonies and temple festivals in the district of Ubud during
February 2012 . If you are interested and want to visit or join some of
them, you should wear traditional Balinese clothing. 1
February 2012 : Hari Raya Galungan
Today is the climax of the Galungan celebrations. Throughout the day the
local temples are crowded with people coming and going, bringing the offerings.
The offerings are presented with mass prayers to Sang Hyang Widi (God),
to His manifestations and to the spirits of one's ancestors.
The ceremonies are privately performed at the house compounds from place
to place and will depend among others on the resources and capabilities
of the family concerned. With the presenting of the offerings one expresses
gratitude for the divine provision of the products of the earth, and one
prays for the well-being of body and soul, for prosperity, and for protection.

February 2012 : Umanis Galungan
The purpose of this day is to cleanse the bhuana alit (the individual
human being) in a physical and spiritual sense. After the ceremony, people
take back the offerings and share them with the family members, as a symbol
of obtaining blessings from Bhatara Hyang Guru.

February 2012 : Pemaridan Guru
Praying and presenting offerings to ask for blessings to have the will
power of goodness for the community.

February 2012 : Ulihan
At Ulihan Day the Dewata (gods) return to their respective Kahyangan or
heavens.

February 2012 : Pemacekan Agung
The Pemacekan Agung ceremony is performed to return the Gods to their
respective places in the invisible world of niskala.

February 2012 : Purnama (Full moon)
People throughout the island present offerings and pray for blessings
from Sang Hyang Widhi. Ceremonies at main temples (Pura Desa, Pura Dalem
and Pura Baleagung) and family temples.

February 2012 : Penampahan Kuningan
Balinese people will kill one or several domestic animal for ceremonies
and for food on Kuningan day.

February 2012 : Kuningan
Believed to be the ascendant day of ancestral holy spirits and deities,
back to the eternity. The ceremonies should be completed before the sun
sinks to the west (before noon) because by then the Gods and Pitara will
have returned to their respective kahyangan or heavens in the invisible
world of niskala.
